Loving the Shopping at Lisbon

You will love that Lisbon has one of the lowest prices in shops and stores in Western Europe.  You will love that that there is a discount card for your purchases.  You will love that there is a variety of choices from the low-end to the high-end.  In short, you will love to shop in Lisbon!

People and Places

Lisboans are known for their outgoing attitude so it is to be expected that the shop owners and salespeople are also very friendly towards their customers.  Yes, this holds true even when you are just browsing around the shops, admiring the goods and chatting up a storm with fellow shoppers.  You will be provided with the same courteous service all around the city.

Small stores co-exist alongside big-name shops.  Thus, you can find both high-end and low-end products albeit in varying sections of the city.  You can also purchase shoes, gloves, and leather handbags, all handiworks of the modern life, along with ceramics, basketwork and local handicrafts, all made in the traditional way.  Indeed, if variety is the name of the game, then Lisbon will come out one of the winners.

Unlike other shopping districts in other nations, Lisboans enjoy the amazing architecture that houses their shops and stores. In fact, many stores are popular with locals and tourists alike because of their distinctive character - so far from the sterile ambience of many Western department stores.

Bargains and Luxury

Lisbon offers quite distinctive shopping districts, too.  For international designer fashion, we recommend the Avenida da Liberdade where truly world-famous names can be had on your body at a cost to your wallets.

For equally good Lisboan fashion, head on to the Bairro Alto and Chiado quarters where books and traditional crafts vie with other fashionable names.  Don't forget to pick up a few furniture and home decor pieces along the way.  This way, you can mix and match your international and local pieces for an eclectic look.

When you have had your fill of fashion, fill up in the fresh produce and the regional specialties regularly finding their way into the vibrant Ribeira Market.  Or for the best bargains in town, hop on to the Feira da Ladra in Alfama on Tuesdays and Saturdays where just about everything can be bought at basement prices.

If you want to really avail of the low, low prices in the Lisboan stores, then go get a Lisboa Shopping Card from the tourism offices.  You can avail of discounts at hundreds of stores around the city as well as reclaim the sales tax on your larger purchases.

Like all shops in the Iberian Peninsula, siesta time is an honored tradition, usually at 1 to 3 in the afternoon.  Shops open at 9 in the morning and close at 8 in the evening on weekends but weekdays mean shorter business hours, if at all.

Loving the shopping in Lisbon is very easy to do.  Just remember to put on a smile, put on your most comfortable shoes and stock up on the money and you are all set! Ah, and make sure to rent a comfortable and well located Lisbon apartment for relaxing at the end of the day! You can find online different categories of Lisbon lodging; there are luxury and cheap apartments with different features to fulfill your accommodation needs.
