Stay connected via the Internet in Europe
Traveling to Europe can be great fun especially if you can access the Internet. There are two options for doing that. You can take your computer along and use it to connect to the internet via a cell phone etc, or you can use an internet café. Most people today need to have access to the internet as they still have to work and need to get emails and stay online daily.
There are various internet cafes all over in Europe. Tourist offices and public libraries have them. One has to pay an hourly fee to use their online services and most times public computers in lobbies of hotels make it fairly easy for those who are guests at the hotel to avail of their internet facilities. If you have your computer with you in Europe, you can be connected to the internet by a wireless connection (if available) through your mobile phone or by telephone.
It is important to find out whether your ISP offers you access to the Internet in Europe. If so, then a list of numbers for the European countries you will be visiting can be downloaded. If not, then you will have to get Earthlink, which like AOL offers excellent access in Italy and has access numbers for all of Europe except the UK.
Many countries have free Internet access and ISPs. All you have to do is set up an account before leaving so that you are ready to access the internet when you are there. Dial long distance to test and make sure that you can connect before you leave. It is important to note that a modem that is designed for US use will not generally recognize the dial tone of Europe and therefore not dial the access number. To solve this, you have to set the dialer option telling it not to wait for the dial tone and to add one or two commas before the 1st digit of the access number in the set up.
It is possible to use a cell phone to access Bluetooth and as a modem to access the internet. Once your cell phone establishes a link with Bluetooth it acts like a modem and you can then set up a dial-up connection to avail of the internet in Europe. While planning on a trip to Europe one of the most important and daunting jobs is to find the right accommodation. The internet has made it easier for travelers to find hotels and other accommodations that offer internet access. Once you browse through sites that advertise suitable accommodations in the countries you will be visiting it is advisable to go through all the information provided before you make your choice.
Most internet cafes in Europe give you fast connections. As long as you have a web-based email account like Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail, you will enjoy easy access to your email. Every European language has a keyboard arrangement of its own so you will have to select English language in the systems tray. Always log out from a session and close down the browser.
Internet cafes in Europe do not generally let you use any type of removable media on account of the possibility of viruses spreading.
Be sure to rent a holiday apartment during your visit to Europe and enjoy your stay with all the things to see and do.
