A Journey of European Culinary Delights
Europe is a continent that offers so many culinary delights that it can be difficult to choose which one is the most favorite amongst them all. Each country has its own treasures in food and drinks that truly speak of the people who made them and yet somehow connects the cuisine to another culture in another country. Such stark differences and subtle similarities can be attributed to the general mobility of the people within countries and within the continent, not to mention that Europeans, past and present, have the spirit of explorers in so many ways.
Let's start with the commonalities in European cuisines so that it will feel like a homecoming each time you cross the border, thanks to the Europe food and drinks. For one thing, various meats like poultry, pork, venison and cow are prominent parts of European cuisine and are often served in substantial servings. For another thing, sauces are given great emphasis in its various capacities from condiments and seasonings to accompaniments to relatively plain meats.
Also, dairy products from milk to cheeses are used extensively. In fact, you will encounter many menus where milk and cheese in various forms are served from the appetizers to the main dishes and then the desserts, even served as cream in coffee. Potatoes and wheat flour are the main sources of starch for Europeans for hundreds of years now.
Now let's move on to the differences in cuisine among countries, of which only a few can be discussed here. Czech cuisine has both been influenced by and influenced other cuisines in its neighboring countries, thus, giving credence to the statement that the Czech Republic is at the crossroads of Europe. It is characterized by a love of meat from goose and duck to rabbit and wild game but take note that fish is a rare addition to Czech dishes.
The British are known for their fish and chips, steak and kidney pie, Sunday roast, as well as bangers and mash - all heart fare to be sure but not as gourmet as others may expect. Still, if you go into the regions, you will find more unique fare like the Arbroath Smokie, the Welsh cakes and Yorkshire pudding, to name a few.
And of course, let's not forget the famous Italian cuisine. With its wide variety of ingredients ranging from fruits and vegetables to meats and cheeses, you have every reason to burp your satisfaction with even the simplest food. And we are not just talking about pasta either.
Other European cuisines worthy of note are the French, German and Spanish cuisines, all of which are renowned the world over even when there are no ethnic communities present in the countries where these are popular. Indeed, going on a European tour is so much like going on a culinary tour filled with wonderful food and drinks, friendly people and great environments. So, book your holiday apartment online now and see Europe.
